I'm not sure if you were implying this specific build, but a bonder is sometimes way better than healing, since if a person doesnt get hurt, there's no need to heal.
What I usually use:
-Restore Life (Since I dont want to lose all my bonds)
-Life Bond
-Life Barrier {E}
-Balthazar's Spirit
-Blessed Signet
-Signet of Devotion
-Reversal of Fortune
-Remove Hex
Prot: 16
Divine: 15
Healing: Rest
Usually start casting 4 bonds, then blessed siggy, cast one more (maybe two) between blessed sig's. Keep about 7 bonds total on your party (those who need them the most, plus the healer monk). The last maintained enchant I keep on is always balthazar's spirit, which allows you to cast other spells like RoF during battle (of course ). 8 Enchants are easily maintained with blessed sig, 9 is so-so but needs constant attention out of battle. The shiz really hits the fan when bonds are lost, so you gotta keep track of who has, and who doesnt have your bonds on. Other than that, it's and easy and enjoyable build to play, even more fun than healing specifically.
Sorry if this was what you were speaking of when you said boon healing (since boon would help with RoF).

for Sorrow furnace:
11+3 healing(for +9 healing breeze)/11+1+3 protect/rest in DF(for Signet) around 8,9
Life bond
Life barrier
Balthazar spirit
Blessed signet
healing breeze(Usually, i hate this spell. with bonds and against degen, it's perfect for Sorrow furnace. can be on yourself.)
Dwayna kiss
Mending
Holy veil(against rust, can be cut if someone have one hex removal for guardian or orison for self healing.)

@Toxic What elite are you using with boon? It really requires a secondary class energy managment elite. Offering of Blood, and Mantra of Recall are two of the best PvE options, and Energy Drain is servicable as well. Don't give up on boon untill you've tried it with one of those elites.
Masochistic Maniac's bond-build looks pretty solod, and bondmonks are exelent for parties. If you can deal with loosing Remove Hex, I'd suggest Mantra of Inscriptions. The fast recharge on Blessed Sig will really boost the amount of bonds you can mantain. 15 Prot 5-8 Inspiration, rest Divine is my suggestion.
@Hygie, Mending is not that good, not by half. I think healing on a bond-monk is a decent idea in SF however, just not via mending. I suggest this heal/prot bond build SF.
Orision of Healing
Mend Condition
Blessed Sig
Dwayna's Kiss
Barrier
Bond
Essence Bond (Or Balth's Spirit)
Life Atunement
Leave the Breeze to the heal-monk. The bonus healing from Life Atunement provides more healing than Mending ever could. With Essence/Balth's you not only have a cover enchant, but you'll have more energy than you know what to do with. I suggest using the energy to heal people.
I sometimes run a similar build in small farming groups, but when I want to barrier/bond more than a few people, I run a build more like Macho's.

Bonding can be very difficult or very very easy, depending on the setup and the situation. If you're running essense bond on a book tank, and only need to have him bonded, then your job is as hard as following him around, not doing anything, unless his bonds get stripped, in which case you reapply. Bonding an entire group with no self-sufficient energy management becomes much more difficult, as you'll need to mess with mantra of inscriptions/blessed signet to keep your energy up. Bonders also often are running with negative energy regeneration, so if energy ever reaches 0, all the bonds go down, and must be reapplied.
It's generally either very easy or very difficult, not moderate in most cases.
To stay on topic: There are 2 main types of prot monks: passive prot and active prot. Passive prot (normally known as bonders) don't do any active protection, but use maintained enchantments (aka bonds) to keep the party alive. Active prot uses spells (not maintained enchants) to heal and/or protect the party. The most popular active prot build of course is Boon prot, but many variations exist, often utilizing Shield of Deflection[e] or Restore Condition[e]. Most active prot builds (other than boon) use mo/me with channeling as energy management.

Except for the first 4 maintained enchantments you cast, they'll stay up, netting you 0 energy regeneration.

Bump, i've made a bonder, i just have to deck myself our in Ascetics, get the attribute quests, and level up 3 levels, i think ill make a good bonder, but i got a kick in the arse when i lost my bonds because i didnt keep u my energy, i totally forgot about energy management, but im gonna stick with it, because i just love the idea, but im also going to make a straight up Prot build, im thinking of using shield of regeneration, mostly because its one of my top 5 favorite skills, and even tho it has 20 second recharge, i think i can utilize it

I personally use a Mo/E Protector of a more unique flavor.. one that's been very infective in both pve and pvp. It goes a little something like-a this:
(15) Protections
(14) Divine Favor
3.. wherever.
Reversal of Fortune
Guardian
Shielding Hands
Mend Ailment
Aegis.. or anything really.
Glyph of Renewal {E}
Divine Spirit
Res.
as you can see.. a shot of glyph and DS every 15 seconds gives you endless 1 energy spammable spells. try it yourself.. one size does /not/ fit all.

i find that with about 7 inspiration and 14 DF you can pretty much keep 9/10 bonds up indefinately, including, cycling inscriptions, although energy drains alarmingly fast, one wrong move and yes you lose 6 bonds.
Balth's spirit gives almost infinate energy when you are in a fight, I like to take mend condition for nice heals and RoF (high DF)

Here is a bonder I have had fun with
Div 16 (12+ tats + sup rune)
Prot 14 (11+Sup rune) or 10+ Sup rune
Insp Left overs (can't remember)
Life Bond
Life Barrier
Life Attunement (in Sorrow's Furnace, otherwise remove hex, inspired hex, or soemthing...)
Balthazar's Spirit
Watchful Spirit
Blessed Signet
Mantra of Inscriptions
Rebirth (only as an absolute last resort)
With this setup you can maintain a ton of enchants (13 is doable but difficult). During a fight, if your life bonded people are getting hit, you can easily cast and drop Watchful for spike heals.
I usually cast Balth's on me, then Watchful on me, then Bonds, Barriers and Watchfuls on others. The +2 regen is negligible but hepls counter act the slow loss of health from bonds/attacks and is a great way to heal for 190 points for free (free at time of heal). That free heal has saved my but many times when I didn't have energy to spare right then (or was in the middle of casting a Bless Sig) and I needed a big heal without forcing the loss of most of my enchants.

GoR/DS works well, but is very fragile. One interupt or strip and your whole build goes to crap. I've tried it, and I don't like it at all.

For the passive bonder you could still use the bonetti's to regain energy back with BS on and a stance thrown in.Instead of boon you could use blessed aura or devine spirit.

I use this build for pve:
Monk/Mesmer
Level: 20
Divine Favor: 15 (11+4)
Protection Prayers: 12 (11+1)
Inspiration Magic: 8
- Reversal of Fortune (Protection Prayers)
Energy:5 Cast:0.25 Recharge:2
*spam healing
- Restore Condition [Elite] (Protection Prayers)
Energy:5 Cast:0.75 Recharge:2
*big healing with just one condition on ally
- Divine Boon (Divine Favor)
Energy:5 Cast:0.25 Recharge:1
*boon for healing power
- Mantra of Inscriptions (Inspiration Magic)
Energy:10 Cast:0 Recharge:20
*faster blessed signet recharge
- Blessed Signet (Divine Favor)
Energy:0 Cast:2 Recharge:10
*energy recovery
- Life Bond (Protection Prayers)
Energy:10 Cast:2 Recharge:0
*cast on everyone else
- Balthazar's Spirit (Smiting Prayers)
Energy:10 Cast:2 Recharge:0
*cast on self - +1 energy each time anyone in party is hit
- Rebirth (Protection Prayers)
Energy:10 Cast:6 Recharge:0
*dont use this except in emergencies. - useful trick though is to have 4 enchantments active, use rebirth, then blessed signet for quick 12 energy boost, [not including wepaon swapping for even more quick energy].
Quite self explainitory build tbh. If you think boon is too energy heavy for this build then try it...most of the time i have full energy when spamming away my heals - bond and balths is a great energy machine with boosts from the signet when needed. I use this build most places, found it espeically useful for being the only monk in the party, great in the desert. oh, last tip is to change armour, use sup prot while casting bonds, then change to sup DF afterwards and cast boon for higher boon and DF healing.
